SEPARATION FUNCTION
The geotextile has a separating function when placed on the surface of the coarse glazed ground with fine glazed ground. Thus, it prevents the mixture of material to be formed due to the dynamic or static load coming from the superstructure. As a result of the properties of geotextiles, continuity, elasticity, deformability, permeability and high tensile strength, they are separated from each other with different geotechnical properties without interfering with the natural circulation of the water
FILTRATION FUNCTION
Geotextile acts as a filter, allowing the passage of water, but retains the smallest grain size specified for it and does not allow it to drift. Geotextile is placed against water flow. It is desirable that the geotextile to be used in the filtration work has a suitable maximum pore opening, sufficient water permeability, little impact and high porosity. After the geotextile is laid, some fine granular soil is carried along with the water in the ground. This material, which is transported in the first place, must pass through the geotextile. Thus, a layer is formed in the face of geotextile in which there is no fine-grained material. This naturally sifted filter layer serves to prevent small particles from moving towards the geotextile. If these fine grades are retained within the geotextile, a low permeability layer is formed and flow of water is prevented. In order not to obstruct the water flow and to prevent the formation of void water pressure, the permeability of the geotextile should be at least as low as the permeability of the soil. Taking into consideration the risk of clogging and the compressibility of the geotextile, the safety factor is taken as 10 or 100 (at significant dams)

DRAINAGE FUNCTION
The geotextile sprays liquid or gas along its plane into the desired outlet. During this transmission, liquid or gas is collected in the interior of the geotextile and transferred in its own plane (3). Geotextiles compared to the ground, very passable. Especially when they are porous and have adequate inclination, water flow can be achieved in their planes. Tunnels, vertical drains, reservoir coverings, foundation walls, etc., are useful for this reason when they are to be drained. Geotextiles to be used for drainage purposes should have high permeability in their plane, high strength against pressure and good filter characteristics. Strengthening Function strengthening the ground mass by spreading the point loads over an equally large area and resisting the tensile forces that occur. Unlike floors, geotextiles have a tensile strength. They increase the tensile strength and the deformation ability before breaking, thus strengthening the floor. Thanks to the strengthening, road construction can be realized by saving the aggregate on soft floors and at a considerable level.

PROTECTION FUNCTION
Geotextile protects the desired material by reducing or spreading deformation and stress. protect one of the materials (asphalt coating or geomembrane) between the geotextiles placed between the two materials (for example between the asphalt coating and the old road cover or between the geomembrane and the aggregate)
INSULATION FUNCTION
Geotextile is saturated with bitumen or plastic insulation materials to form an impermeable layer. It’s a kind of membrane. Especially new coatings are laid on old veneered roads. Geotextile should have the ability to retain bitumen in sufficient quantities. As a result, the two main groups, mechanically and hydraulically, geosynthetics which can have reinforcement, strengthening, separation, insulation, filtration and drainage functions have been increasingly used in the last 20-30 years and they are effective in the solution of civil engineering problems. These materials, which can be used in a wide variety of works instead of traditional methods, provide the direct and indirect advantages and various recoveries by improving the engineering parameters, giving new features naturally not available to the floor.
